E-mail marketing is actually as the name implies: Marketing by e-mail. Many say that email marketing is out of date. However, this is totally untrue! E-mail marketing is still alive and kicking and can deliver a lot!
Email marketing does not have to make money directly, but can also, for example, ensure that customers who have purchased a product from you automatically receive an email asking them to leave a product review.
Reviews are enormously valuable!
Often companies/people understand e-mail marketing to mean newsletters. Although these are still important and can deliver a lot, e-mail marketing is thus a much broader concept. For newsletters and other e-mail marketing aspects, however, it is important to build a mailing list. By a mailing list we mean people who have subscribed to the newsletter.
Intriguing people to subscribe themselves to the newsletter can be a tricky business. However, it becomes a little easier when you realize that customers like to get something in return. For example, you can specify that every customer who subscribes will receive a 10% discount. What goes around comes around :).
How can you get people on your website to enroll themselves?
There are many different ways for customers to subscribe to a website. What you often see with web shops is that at the last step there is a check mark where you subscribe yourself to the newsletter. However, there are other ways!
We ourselves have installed a leadmagnet on our website. This is a popup in a corner of the screen, it also scrolls with the visitor.
The benefits of email marketing include:
- Email marketing can be fully automated
- Own media (mailing list is in-house)
- With lots of subscriptions lots of reach
- Extra spotlighting your own products
Automating email marketing can be incredibly interesting. Of course, I gave the example of product reviews earlier. You can also do this for reviews for the company itself. You can also send product recommendations, order confirmations and you can put customers in a marketing funnel.
In short, email marketing can go a long way!
